Lianne La Havas - "Is Your Love Big Enough?" Album Review

With probably the best hair in music and a smile that's more infectious than anthrax I think you'd have to go a long way to find somebody not won over by Miss La Havas' personality. Any doubters would then be won over by a voice that's as smooth as a baby's bum in a vat of Vaseline. Listening is transformed into a 45 minute ear drum massage which left me dazed in the most pleasant way possible.

It has certainly been an amazing year for the 23 year old who grew up in Tooting, releasing her first album, being nominated for the Mercury Music Prize and touring the USA and Europe. Lianne La Havas deserves all the praise and plaudits coming her way in my opinion, a true star for the present and foreseeable future.

The stand out track for me has to be the title track "Is Your Love Big Enough?", a tale of future struggle and a second-hand guitar. It's my personal favourite because it shows off not only Lianne's smoothness, as the entire album does, but it shows off the sheer power that her voice also contains and is quite often held back. This power could also be seen in several of her live videos on Youtube.

Another striking feature of this album is the sheer variety of styles, each song feels like it has it's own unique identity which you don't feel in many albums these days. This album feels like duodecaplets, they all look like Lianne La Havas but they are each as beautiful and unique as the next. This causes a sense of wonder at what's coming next and keeps the listener fully engaged throughout.

"Age" is another little gem from the album, it is Lianne talking about fancying older men and whether it's acceptable. 'I kinda know this other guy he's rather/old enough to be my father.'. However a positive for me, being 3 years her junior is she claims 'I fancy younger men' so I haven't lost all hope! This is a simply beautiful collection of music that conveys a sense of feeling and experience beyond her years and could be a soundtrack to many a lazy Sunday spent in bed. 4.5/5

Lianne La Havas' 6th single "Age" is relseased on December 3rd 2012.
